Air pollution link to Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
A new study has published research linking age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with air pollution, using data from the UK Biobank Eye and Vision Consortium.
Led by Professor Paul Foster, the team of researchers from NIHR Moorfields BRC, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and scientists from across the UK found an increased risk of AMD connected to areas with high levels of air pollution.
About the UK Biobank Eye and Vision Consortium
The consortium is based at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital. It includes anonymised eye data from almost 120,000 participants in the UK Biobank. Researchers can compare the eye data with linked health data and in-depth genetic information in the Biobank, allowing them to test and uncover links between eye conditions and a range of genetic and environmental factors.
