BRC Co-Director Prof Sir Peng Tee Khaw receives the Lifetime Achievement Award of the European Paediatric Ophthalmological Society

The Lifetime Achievement Award of the European Paediatric Ophthalmological Society (EPOS) has been presented to Prof Sir Peng Tee Khaw, our BRC Co-Director at the 50th jubilee meeting in Leiden, the Netherlands. Sir Peng was also invited to deliver a lecture at this prestigious event. It is the highest honour that EPOS bestows, recognising excellence in paediatric ophthalmology.  Four individuals standing together in a lecture hall with tiered seating. President Darius Hildenbrand commended Prof Sir Peng Khaw for his outstanding clinical and research contributions, which have advanced the care and thus improved the outcomes of children with glaucoma.

 President Hildebrand told the EPOS delegates that the award not just recognises the ground-breaking work, but also serves to be an inspiration to future research worldwide to improve the lives of children with blinding diseases.
  

Sir Peng is Professor of Glaucoma and Ocular Healing at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He is Founder Director of the NIHR Moorfields BRC and led it since 2007. He co-founded and was President of the UK Paediatric Glaucoma Society, and is currently Patron. He was the main clinical fundraiser for the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre.  He was elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences (2002), named NIHR Senior Investigator (2009), and knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours (2013). He was inducted into The Ophthalmologist Hall of Fame in 2023.
