Researcher guidance
Including patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in your research brings meaningful and measurable benefits to research. Involving members of the public when making decisions can offer solutions to challenges throughout the research cycle, help make research more ethical and result in better quality research.
Funders and ethics committee’s are increasingly recognising the importance of PPIE in research design and implementation, and for many this is now a fixed requirement.
PPI knowledge building
Our PPIE Team is available to support researchers in learning more about PPIE and in developing knowledge and skills in areas such as conversation facilitation, and evaluation and surveys. You can contact us at moorfieldsbrc@nihr.ac.uk to find out more.
Our BRC provides an introductory module on PPIE for all researchers. Core staff at Moorfields can easily access this via the UCLExtend training platform and all staff at the Institute of Ophthalmology and members of the public can access it through UCLExtend. This is a free public facing, on-demand course; you just need to register. We align all our PPIE to the UK Standards for Public Involvement.
Speak to our team
In addition to the training and resources available on this page, we are here to help you with guidance and advice on your PPIE.
Are you acknowledging NIHR BRC: Moorfields in your research papers?
This is a requirement for all researchers at UCL IoO and Moorfields as the BRC funding covers infrastructure at the very least. Wording or branding content for you acknowledgement is easily available in this section.
We are here to help you communicate your findings
Your work is important and has an impact on the scientific community, patients and the public. Our job is to help you communicate your findings in the best way. There are myriad ways to do this, contacting us in good time helps us to help you find the right channels for your research. This could be anything from press releases and making your findings lay to public or industry involvement. We can help you to make a better impact in the right type of media when you publish your findings.
Below are links to training and resources that can help you build your PPIE knowledge and skill set.
