Dr Shruti then highlighted the current treatment options available for wet AMD and provided insight into her research focus on dry AMD, an area where therapeutic options remain limited, with the first treatments for geographic atrophy, a type of dry AMD, only recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of USA.
The audience asked thoughtful questions about anti-VEGF injections, emerging therapies including light treatment, and the role of antioxidants in slowing disease progression. The patients praised the clarity of the presentation, with several expressing interest in participating in ongoing research studies.
