The fourth event for the Cross Innovation Hub was held on the 18th of April.
The event, which was held in the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre, brought together clinicians, researchers and technicians and provided them with a platform to network, learn, and explore advancing opportunities for their careers and research. It was a great example of the Cross Innovation Hub bridging the gap between Moorfields and the Institute of Ophthalmology. We were delighted to welcome Konstantinos Balaskas, Professor of Medical Artificial Intelligence and Applied Health Research, as our featured speaker. His talk on AI in Ophthalmology explored the benefits of using a machine-learning approach. It focused on Geographic Atrophy, a severe eye condition related to age-related macular degeneration, which can lead to blindness. They found that AI produced results that were difficult to obtain during standard clinical exams. If you would like to read more about this work visit the publication.
