This is a friendly informal event where you (and your family, friends and/or carers) will have the opportunity to hear about research taking place at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ask the researcher questions, and provide input that could shape the future of eye care research.

Presenting at our next Coffee Hour will be Prof Alice Davidson. Alice is a Professor of Molecular Genetics at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology currently studying why some people develop abnormalities in the thin layer of endothelial cells lining the inner surface of the cornea. This can lead to corneal endothelial dystrophies (CEDs): inherited conditions that cause the clear front window of the eye to become swollen and cloudy.
Alice’s work aims to uncover the genetic causes of these diseases and understand how they damage the cornea. By growing corneal cells in the lab and analysing patients’ DNA, Alice is working towards earlier diagnosis and the development of new treatments that could delay or prevent sight loss.
