Come and join us at our coffee hour series where you can hear about research in different areas of eye care. This is a friendly informal event where you (and your family, friends and/or carers) will have the opportunity to hear about research taking place at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ask the researcher questions, and provide input that could shape the future of eye care research.

Presenting at our next hour will be Dr Alasdair Warwick and colleagues. Alasdair is an ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a clinical researcher at University College London. He will be joined by Dr Benjamin Zuckerman, an internal medicine trainee, and Dr Skanda Rajasundaram, an ophthalmology trainee. Their research uses genetics to understand what the leading causes of sight loss are, and to find better ways to treat and prevent them. The team will give an overview of their work applying genetic epidemiology techniques across three common eye conditions: finding promising new drug targets for glaucoma, exploring whether UV-protective sunglasses may help prevent age-related macular degeneration, and building one of the largest genetic maps of diabetic eye disease in communities at higher risk. They will also discuss future directions and other exciting work taking place in this area.
We will also be providing a free coffee and pastry for you to enjoy! So come along and let’s have a chat about research into eye care that is important to you.
