Prof. Andrew Dick, co-director of the BRC, joined an informal panel to discuss his “growing up in science”. Asked if he had ever taken on a role he felt unready for, Andrew reflected on imposter syndrome. He advocated for taking jobs that excite you and require you to grow with the challenge. He emphasised the importance of maintaining balance and calm to manage anxiety and sustain long-term success.
Helen Khan and Helen Baker spoke about the BRC’s dedication to pioneering research. They outlined how we can support researchers with funding, infrastructure, communications, research method expertise and more.

The Cross Innovation Hub aims to facilitate partnerships between clinicians and researchers by providing a place for ideas to grow. Find out more about our events and shadowing.
This year, we teamed up with the Friends of Moorfields to host a new essay competition for young people, early-stage researchers, and clinicians. We are looking for the wonderful stories of how and why they became involved in eye care.

Finally, our EDI Associate, Chrissie Adams, would like to highlight the BRC’s free training sessions on incorporating EDI in your research design. Collecting diverse data may take more resources, but it leads to robust, societally relevant and ultimately more impactful research.
