International Women’s Day 2024 NHS Resources

The following page has information about the services and information available to staff of NIHR Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre or at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Maternity and Parental Leave

Maternity leave is 52 weeks and paid for 39 weeks of it leaving the remaining 13 weeks unpaid.

Employees who wish to retain their Occupational Maternity/Adoption/Paternity Pay must return to work in the NHS for at least 3 months. Employees who do not return to work for a minimum of 3 months will be contractually obliged to repay any Occupational Pay they have received.

Paternity leave is full pay but depending on the individual length of service at the Trust. If they have worked continuously for the Trust for 26 weeks, if not, they will need to consider unpaid parental leave.
Adoption leave is the same as maternity leave if you are the main carer.

Parental leave gives more choice in how 2 parents can care for their child.

Menopause

Currently, the Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust doesn’t have a menopause policy in place however they are in the process of creating a menopause guidance document designed to reduce stigma around menopause in the workplace, provide support to managers and provide information and resources to colleagues experiencing the menopause. We will post the document here when it is published
